Singer from The Distillers and Spinerette, Brody Dalle started touring to present her debut solo album, with an intimate show for a few people at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen last night in London, Monday, February 24.

The concert was set to start at 21:30, and with just a few minutes delayed, Brody entered the stage dressed in jeans and fluorescent orange shirt , presenting the thirsty fans a mixture of tracks from her new album, Diploid Love (to be released on April 28 in UK) and with songs from her old projects, apart from a Misfits’ cover, “Hybrid Moments”.

Despite the technical problems of the stage sound and Brody’s difficulty hearing herself properly on stage, the vocalist gave an energetic performance, throwing herself in the audience during “Ghetto Love”, where the excited fans were already expecting the crowd surfing as predicted by previous gigs in America. Brody didn’t interact much with the audience or with her band, which left some fans disappointed but their admiration never wavered. Familiar faces such as longtime friend and guitarist Tony Bevilacqua and drummer Hayden Scott, which delivered a great performance with a “heavy hand” and “hard beat”.

Dalles’ raspy and shouty voice on the Distillers hits sounded as fresh and strong as ever , and the new material from her solo career represents a new musical phase of the vocalist, but with the same aggressiveness in the new track “Meet the Foetus/Oh The Joy”, where the crowd sang along the chorus while Brody offers the microphone to the audience.

Her punk rocker side also showed up last night: “You guys are Japanese or what? Do you speak fucking English? I thought we were in England!” Probably because the audience was not making too much noise in between songs, but they were still excited and with their eyes fixated on her performance, or because Dalle had to switch guitars, and tuning them in between most of the songs. A brave fan shouted about the yellow socks, which Brody was asking for someone to bring to her, via Twitter, and she replied gracefully: “Yeah! Where’s my yellow socks?”

After London, Brody and her band mates will be heading to Berlin , Netherlands, apart from Australia and New Zealand, where they’ll be supporting Queens of The Stone Age and Nine Inch Nails tour.

All in all, Brody Dalles presence back on the music scene is welcomed by many, and has ignited excitement from her fans, which was shown at her intimate gig here in London. Welcome back Ms Dalle.
